Food for thought, for people who don't like thinking.

As Christmas draws closer it has got me thinking. The Bible can seem so intimidating and complicated, but why is that? Is it just a book of rules? Is it made up by a string of liars? Is it just easier not to think about it or ask these questions, and if so, why? Is it convenient to see God like Father Christmas, is Father Christmas more of what love should look like? I want to know HOW and WHY people can conclude that God doesn't exist.  The Bible is not simply a rule book. It is history. We all believe in history whether we believe in God or not. So either its all a lie and none of it happened, or its the truth. If it is a lie then how are the stories told from so long ago so relevant to me today? And also, who exactly is Jesus? We know he existed because that's also History so we cant say he didn't exist...which means he is either the biggest fraud of all time, or He is who He showed Himself to be. Notice that He didn't tell anyone who He was, He showed them. He pro...

Exploring Malawi, a DIY plywood couch and more of our life in the warm Heart of Africa

Malawi has so much natural beauty, its a pity that it also has so much poverty that this threatens the beauty so much. I have never seen so much litter in my life, and there is no municipal refuse service in Mzuzu, so most people burn their rubbish which means there is always a lot of smoke around. We explored the botanical garden where some of the natural forest has been preserved, the forests are under threat because most people still use firewood for cooking.   We went to Makuzi Bay for lunch, it is such a beautiful spot! Play time with my happy baby. He LOVES his sensory swing! Our Veggie patch is doing so well. We have an abundance of lettuce, cucumbers, and gem squash. We are also starting to get some beans (when the monkeys don't steal them!), sweet potatoes and carrots are growing, and even a watermelon that's getting bigger by the day. Such fun. We even made our own pickled cucumber. I had to capture this picture so I will remember it forever. I love this strong, gentl...

Our adorable little man just gets cuter and cuter. He is so smiley and sweet. Its amazing how each baby has their own personality and his is just pure sweetness! It's been a busy few weeks at Bertland! Granny and Grampa Barrett came to visit us for a week over their half term and we managed to book a cottage at the lake to spend a couple of nights at, it was so relaxing and lovely!  The kids were busy for hours playing in the garden and eventually came in looking like this! Early morning excitement as we got ready to head to the lake! A little taste of paradise. We were lucky to have a nice breeze during the day too. We did plenty of relaxing and even more swimming. It was a wonderful time away. Who remembers monkey oranges?? I thoroughly enjoyed teaching my kids this bush craft activity I used to enjoy when I was young! The cottage comes with a chef and so we bought some fresh Chambo (Bream) and he cooked it for us. Mmmmm. A definite highlight for me was going on the S...
